Top 10 Restaurants In Colombia Your Taste Buds Can’t Miss
If it’s hearty food that fills you up to the point of bursting that you’re looking for, Colombian cuisine may just be the food for you.
In Colombia there are two things sacred in society: food and music. These things go to the very core of what it is to be Colombian and a love for each is cultivated from the cot onwards. Both represent a lot for Colombians: nationality, culture and family.
For this reason, perhaps, Colombian food feels familial. It’s hearty cuisine that’ll never taste better than it does when cooked by your mother (or, maybe, her mother). It’s also very filling, as mentioned. Just take a look below at some of the dishes prized by Colombian culture; sancocho (which contains 3 types of meat), bandeja paisa (which contains almost everything) and other favourites all operate with a “more is more” ethos.
Even the hot chocolate contains cheese.
It’s a world of flavor and deliciousness that you’ll love getting lost in. So where to sample the best of the best (and some international cuisine to boot)? Without further ado, here are my favourite restaurants in Colombia.
Restaurants in Bogota
The guys at Aracataca know their steak, so if it’s a big slab of meat for lunch you’re looking to tuck in to, this could be the place for you. Ask the people there for advice on what cut to take to ensure you leave stuff, satisfied and ready to face the rest of the day.

4. Andres Carne de Res
Some of the best traditional town and a great party on top of that, this infamous restaurant/club/Colombian experience will be something you won’t forget in a hurry. Having sampled the incredible, tender meats and gigantic soups, prepare to dance off all the excess all night long.
Restaurants in Cartagena
Fresh from the sea
If you are in Cartagena, this well located restaurant will delight your taste buds. The atmosphere is pleasant and the ingredients are nice and fresh. You’ll find all known ceviches, but also other dishes such as paella, soups or dishes for children. It’s a casual little restaurant, but it gets busy so prepare for a small wait!

7. La Cocina De Pepina
The locals’ choice
This tiny restaurant is a little hard to find, but it couldn’t be more local. You’ll sample dishes prepared in a traditional Colombian way specifically for the locals. Indeed, few tourists know this place and the atmosphere reflects that: it’s a joyous, welcoming place that feels like a homecoming each time you go.
The menu consists primarily of cooked products that day. Whether you want meat, chicken, seafood or vegetarian, this is your place.

Restaurants in Medellin
Simplicity and tradition
This is a must-visit restaurant in Medellin, and seems to have been a fixture on guidebooks for as long as they’ve been written about Medellin.
Prices are quite reasonable, and it’s not fancy here. High quality but simple soups, fish dishes, chips and a drink await. Typical and traditional, you’ll come away stuffed.

Cordon-Bleu trained chefs dish up a delight
Foodies will love Carmen. Colombian flavors meet Californian influence here, all served up with the skill of the owners, both of whom trained at the prestigious Cordon-Bleu. It’s not the cheapest place in town, but it’s certainly one of the best.

This relaxed restaurant serves up a range of dishes that are as unique as they are delicious (half bunuelo, half seafood anyone?). Keep your eyes peeled when looking for the place as it’s up on the 3rd floor and completely signless. Still, that doesn’t stop it being completely packed, so try to book in advance.
