Scrunch, Trill and Sploosh – Arts and Crafts day at the Biblioteca

0 Flares 0 Flares ×

ChalkDrawingWhen the viventura staff  from the Medellin office got out of their taxis at Luis Angel Munoz’s private biblioteca (library) for Arts and Crafts day, they encountered uneven sidewalks shining bright with all of the colors of the rainbow. Today was the day viventura and many children would be taking part in their viSozial program located in the impoverished barrio called, Pueblo Escobar.

Don Luis gave back to his community by building a library where children can learn and play together. Don really enjoys helping the kids with their homework, especially math, but today called for something different. Instead of homework, the kids spent the afternoon playing games and having fun.

With the help from Arvind Gupta’s Toys from the Trash, baskets were filled with Popsicle sticks, rubber bands, paper and even used matches that were given to the children to allow them the opportunity to imagine and build anything that they desired. After, they were treated to some fun melodies of a Puppeteer’s Whistle and even some tunes from Don Luis himself. With the musical tunes playing in the background, they moved on to their next activity; a rocket balloon competition! When this activity was complete, all of the left over balloons were filled with water and the war began. I think some of the viventura staff would have had better luck arriving in wetsuits because the children had great aim!

Half wet and exhausted from dodging water balloons, it was time for a snack consisting of fruit, juice and even delicious cheese pastries. When the day came to an end, everyone present was adding and accepting new Facebook friends, as well as posing in front of the camera to remember this special day. When we said our goodbyes, one child advised us that, “We should bring more balloons next time.”

All in all, it was a very successful day for the viventura team at the biblioteca with Luis and the children. We had lots of fun and we are looking forward to our next visit!

Hasta luego!
